    Toyota to provide gas cell powertrains to Kenworth

    ANAHEIM, Calif. — Toyota Motor North America introduced an settlement to place its gas cell powertrain into Kenworth and Peterbilt large rigs.

    The automaker and Paccar, proprietor of the truck manufacturers, introduced the deal Tuesday on the ACT Expo clear transportation convention right here.

    Toyota has leveraged the gas cell know-how it developed for the small-volume Mirai sedan to be used in heavy-duty vans.

    Much of the work used Kenworth Class 8 truck cabs and chassis, together with an indication mission at Los Angeles and Long Beach, Calif., ports.

    The corporations see a rising marketplace for zero-emission gas cell know-how as regulators in California and different areas start to section out diesel vans.

    California, for instance, would require 5 % of recent Class 7 and Class 8 truck gross sales to be zero-emission autos beginning subsequent 12 months. That jumps to 40 % in 2032. The truck business expects different states to comply with California’s lead, including to the market measurement.

    “This innovative technology enables us to provide our commercial customers with a viable carbon-neutral option to further their business while also contributing to Toyota’s mission to reduce and ultimately eliminate carbon from the environment,” Christopher Yang, the automaker’s group vice chairman of enterprise growth, mentioned in an announcement.
