Every 12 months since 1976, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority— or higher often called Metro— has gathered bus drivers, mechanics and their households for a little bit of enjoyable competitors often called the Bus Roadeo. Yes that’s the way it’s spelled, and sure, it’s as attention-grabbing because it sounds.

This wasn’t his first roadeo –– he’s competed 45 instances! But the impediment course is all the time a problem. “We are very good at driving through Los Angeles streets and providing a safe service for riders,” he advised me, “but when you compete and you hit a few cones, it’s very humbling.”

The upkeep competitions are slightly extra difficult; inside Metro there are 10 upkeep divisions. Each division has groups of three who’re often the highest of their division. These 11 groups are those that get chosen to compete. They must make their means via six timed competitions:
- Bus inspection
- Air brake board
- HVAC
- Cummins energy practice (ie. engine restore)
- Bus doorways
- Written check
