    AutoNation buyer expertise exec Cannon to retire; CMO named

    AutoNation Inc. government Marc Cannon plans to depart his place as chief buyer expertise officer, shift to a short-term philanthropic position for the auto retailer after which retire at year-end.

    Richard Lennox, a former division retailer, toy firm and jewellery retailer advertising government, was named AutoNation’s CMO, efficient May 15, the retailer additionally introduced.

    “It was just a perfect time for me to decide to finish up,” Cannon, 61, a 27-year AutoNation veteran, informed Automotive News.

    AutoNation disclosed the information on Monday. In an electronic mail to staff shared with Automotive News, CEO Mike Manley credited Cannon with being a key participant in AutoNation’s improvement.

    “It goes without saying that after many years at AutoNation, [Cannon] has been instrumental in the company’s growth,” Manley wrote.

    Going again to a minimum of 2017, Cannon served as CMO of AutoNation, earlier than being named to the newly created place of chief buyer expertise officer in 2020. The position added oversight of expertise to ongoing duties heading up advertising and promoting, model, e-commerce, buyer relations and communications.

    A key focus for Cannon was serving to AutoNation develop digital buyer experiences and collaborating in strategic planning for expertise on this space.

    “We’ve made tremendous progress,” he stated.

    Those successes embody a relaunch of the AutoNation Express digital platform in December and the debut of the AutoNation GPS buyer relationship administration device this yr, Cannon stated.

    He will transition May 15 into a brand new position targeted on company duty revolving round AutoNation’s Drive Pink philanthropic and group actions.

    “I always tell people there are three things that are most important to me … my family, God and [the Drive Pink initiative], and what could be better to be able for the rest of this year [than] to help drive our philanthropic and social responsibility?” Cannon stated.
