The Tesla Cybertruck, already known for its futuristic design and rugged capabilities, is now getting even more extreme. Archimedes Defense, a defense contractor, and UP.FIT, a division of Tesla tuning house Unplugged Performance, have introduced new “apocalypse ready” Sting packages for the Cybertruck. These upgrades are designed to enhance the vehicle’s durability and functionality for government, defense, and even civilian use, making it a “go-anywhere” vehicle ready for any situation.
Sting Packages: Enhanced Features for the Cybertruck
Building on the Invincible upgrades announced by UP.FIT after the Cybertruck’s debut in 2023, the Sting packages take the Cybertruck’s capabilities to a new level. Three distinct Sting packages have been outlined, each with unique features aimed at maximizing the vehicle’s resilience and utility.
- Base Sting Baja Package
The Base Sting Baja package is the entry-level upgrade, but it packs a punch with several advanced features. One of the key components is Starlink connectivity, which provides satellite internet access via a receiver mounted in the truck bed. This feature, owned by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, ensures the Cybertruck stays connected even in remote locations.
Additionally, the package includes an AMP Drive G125 800-volt generator mounted in the frunk (front trunk). This generator is highly versatile, running on multiple fuel types including jet fuel, JP-8, diesel, and biodiesel. It can output up to 125 kW of energy, allowing it to recharge the Cybertruck or even power another electric vehicle (EV). The generator comes equipped with a NACS (North American Charging Standard) cable and adapters for non-NACS vehicles, though no photos of these components were provided.
- Sting Protector Package
For those seeking enhanced protection, the Sting Protector package adds bolt-on offset steel armor plating to the Cybertruck. This armor is designed to withstand hits from a 7.62 mm assault rifle, significantly increasing the vehicle’s survivability in dangerous environments. Notably, this package can be added independently of the Base Sting Baja package, meaning customers can opt for added protection without the generator upgrade.
- Sting APC Package
The most extreme of the upgrades, the Sting APC package, takes the armor to a new level. This package includes IED (Improvised Explosive Device) and mine protection through upgraded bolt-on offset steel and ceramic plating. According to Archimedes Defense, this enhanced shielding can withstand hits from 14.5 mm heavy machine guns, making the Cybertruck one of the most heavily armored consumer vehicles available.
No Pricing Yet, But Pre-Orders Are Open
Archimedes Defense has opened pre-orders for these Sting packages, though pricing details have not yet been released. The lack of pricing may indicate that these packages are tailored for specialized applications where cost is secondary to performance and protection. Given the extensive upgrades, it’s expected that these packages will come at a premium.
The Future of Cybertruck Upgrades
The introduction of the Sting packages follows other recent announcements related to the Cybertruck. In June, UP.FIT revealed a police package for the vehicle, and in July, the Irvine Police Department announced plans to add a Cybertruck to its fleet. These developments suggest a growing interest in the Cybertruck as a versatile platform for various applications, from law enforcement to military and civilian use.
