Acura has taken a bold step into the future of performance with the unveiling of the Integra Type S HRC Prototype at the prestigious Monterey Car Week. This prototype, which made its public debut at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, on August 16, signals a potential new direction for Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) performance parts. Developed by HRC’s championship-winning engineers, the Integra Type S HRC Prototype is designed to deliver exceptional performance both on the road and the racetrack.

    Aerodynamic Excellence: Built for Speed

The Integra Type S HRC Prototype is a marvel of aerodynamic engineering, with every detail crafted to enhance performance. The vehicle’s design, created by the Acura Design Studio in Los Angeles, is as functional as it is striking. The front fascia features a larger splitter and cooling ducts, complemented by larger hood vents and side splitters. These elements work together to increase downforce and improve stability at high speeds.

The crown jewel of the aerodynamic package is an adjustable carbon fiber rear wing with aluminum uprights, which plays a crucial role in optimizing track performance. The prototype’s aggressive stance is further accentuated by its Indy Yellow Pearl paint, a vibrant color first seen on the second-generation NSX supercar. Custom milled aluminum HRC badges on the grille, front fenders, and decklid add a touch of exclusivity, emphasizing the vehicle’s racing lineage.

Lightweight Design: Shaving Off Pounds for Performance

In the world of high-performance vehicles, weight reduction is key, and the Integra Type S HRC Prototype doesn’t disappoint. Acura has utilized extensive carbon fiber components, including the hood, rear door panels, and one-piece Recaro bucket seats, to reduce the vehicle’s weight by nearly 200 lbs compared to the standard Integra Type S. This significant weight reduction enhances acceleration, handling, and agility, making the prototype a formidable contender on the track.

A standout feature of the prototype is the innovative rear seat replacement with a carbon shelf, designed to securely transport four mounted wheels and tires for track days. This practical yet performance-oriented approach caters to serious driving enthusiasts, offering convenience without compromising speed or handling.

Power and Performance: Engineered for the Track

Under the hood, the Integra Type S HRC Prototype is powered by a high-revving turbocharged 2.0-liter VTEC® engine. Enhancements include a larger intercooler, twin oil coolers, and a tuned, lightweight cat-back exhaust system. These modifications, inspired by the Acura Integra Type S HRC TCX race car, significantly boost output, response, and cooling performance, ensuring the prototype delivers a thrilling driving experience both on the street and the track.

The handling of the Integra Type S HRC Prototype is equally impressive. The vehicle is equipped with a lowered, track-ready suspension featuring tuned coilovers, adjustable anti-roll bars, and camber plates. This setup allows for precise handling and control, essential for high-performance driving. The prototype also features forged lightweight 19 x 9.5-inch wheels, with a widened front and rear track, wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R ultra high-performance tires. These tires offer maximum grip, ensuring the vehicle remains planted during aggressive driving.

For braking, the prototype is fitted with massive 15-inch two-piece front rotors and Brembo® 6-piston aluminum calipers. Larger brake cooling ducts in the front fascia ensure that the braking system remains cool under pressure, providing consistent stopping power even in demanding conditions.

HRC’s Racing Heritage: A Legacy of Excellence

The Integra Type S HRC Prototype is more than just a high-performance vehicle; it represents the culmination of Honda Racing Corporation’s decades-long commitment to excellence in motorsports. With over 40 years of experience in global racing categories, HRC has brought its expertise to the development of this prototype, signaling a potential shift towards street performance parts.

HRC’s influence in the world of motorsports is set to grow even further, as the corporation will become the official engine supplier for the Aston Martin Aramco F1 team starting in 2026. The Integra Type S HRC Prototype stands as a testament to HRC’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of performance, blending their rich racing heritage with cutting-edge technology.

A Bright Future for Acura Performance

The public debut of the Acura Integra Type S HRC Prototype at Monterey Car Week marks a significant moment for automotive enthusiasts and the future of Acura. As the brand explores the potential for a new line of HRC performance parts, the future of street and track performance looks brighter—and faster—than ever before. With its combination of aerodynamic excellence, weight-saving innovations, and powerful performance, the Integra Type S HRC Prototype is poised to set new standards in the world of high-performance vehicles.
